Why in Lapland

By the creek in summer 2010

Lapland is periphery and there are more reindeer here than people. True, but there's also room to breathe and be creative. You can get out too, if needed, though it is not quite as easy to hop to central Europe from here than it is from rush-hour Finland. Further, Rovaniemi has grown considerably in my time, and not just because of change in census mathematics due to municipal merging. University brings along nicely much needed creative buzz and happenings even more unofficially.

I could use an old cliché and go on saying how I want to be a part of developing my home province etc. but I'll just say that I don't want my Lapland to be just ski resorts and tourist reservation, despite that skiing is my number one winter activity nowadays. We need tourism here, but also creativity. In part to support that tourism business too and especially local creativity. Also by others than by those, who came here by train.
